
CESAR at Intensive Safety Week 2026
The CESAR – Centre of Excellence for Safety Research team actively participated in Intensive Safety Week 2026, hosted by the Faculty of Safety Engineering, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava. The event brought together experts, researchers, academics, and students from nine countries, providing an international platform for knowledge exchange and discussion on current and emerging challenges in safety research.
The programme addressed a broad range of topics, including ergonomics, crisis management, fire safety, environmental protection, process safety, hydrogen technologies, and alternative energy sources, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary cooperation and the future development of safety research.
CESAR researchers actively contributed to the programme through lectures and expert discussions. Julio Ariel Dueñas Santana presented "Complex Systems and System Dynamics: The Hydrogen Case", while Enrico Danzi delivered the lecture "Safety of Metals as a New Energy Carrier". Their contributions highlighted key challenges associated with hydrogen technologies and emerging energy carriers.
A dedicated thematic session, "Process Safety & Alternative Fuels / CESAR", further strengthened the project's presence within the programme. The session was led by Ernesto Salzano, ERA Chair holder of the CESAR project, and Vojtěch Jankůj, CESAR project coordinator at VSB-TUO, together with CESAR researchers Daniele Morra and Julio Ariel Dueñas Santana. The discussions focused on hydrogen safety, process safety, alternative fuels, and the role of interdisciplinary research in developing safer and more sustainable energy systems.
The programme also featured contributions from international experts, including Frank Guldenmund from TU Delft and Paul Amyotte from Dalhousie University, and provided opportunities to discuss international research cooperation, grant opportunities, Erasmus+ initiatives, and future partnerships.
Participation in Intensive Safety Week 2026 provided CESAR with an important opportunity to share expertise, strengthen international research networks, engage with students and academic partners, and promote collaboration in the fields of process safety and emerging energy technologies.
The event reflected CESAR's ongoing commitment to advancing research in hydrogen safety, alternative energy carriers, risk prevention, and sustainable industrial technologies, while supporting stronger links between research, education, and international cooperation.
