CESAR Week and Climate-Resilient Critical Infrastructure Summer School

During the last week of August 2026, the CESAR – Centre of Excellence for Safety Research team gathered in Ostrava for an internal CESAR Week, held alongside the Climate-Resilient Critical Infrastructure Summer School. The week provided an important opportunity for research discussions, knowledge exchange, reflection on the project's progress, team development, and the generation of new ideas for future collaboration.

The meeting also marked a significant milestone for CESAR — one year since the research team was formed. Bringing the team together offered an opportunity to look back at the achievements of the first year, evaluate progress across ongoing research activities, and discuss new research topics and priorities for the months ahead. The programme was designed to strengthen cooperation across the project and reinforce the interdisciplinary approach that is central to CESAR's research in safety, emerging energy technologies, and resilient systems.

An important part of the programme was a workshop focused on feedback and the satisfaction of international employees. The session created space to share experiences, identify areas for improvement, and discuss how the working and research environment can better support international researchers and their integration into the team and university community.

The programme also included several site visits and excursions. The CESAR team visited CESIT, VVUÚ, RSBP spol. s r.o., and the Materials Envi Lab (MEL) at CEET, gaining further insight into research infrastructure, experimental facilities, applied research, and technologies relevant to CESAR's activities.

As part of the Climate-Resilient Critical Infrastructure Summer School, Julio Ariel Dueñas Santana contributed with a presentation focused on the resilience of critical infrastructure as a complex interconnected system, highlighting the links between technical, environmental, logistical, and emergency-response aspects.

Alongside the professional programme, CESAR Week also created opportunities for informal networking and team building, including a joint barbecue, which complemented the research discussions and strengthened connections within the international team.

Overall, CESAR Week combined team development, knowledge exchange, research collaboration, practical insight, and engagement with the next generation of researchers, while providing space to reflect on the project's first year and shape priorities for its future activities.
